Why Exactly 555?
Every finite system begins with a number.
Not because numbers possess mystical meaning, but because limits create structure.
Without limits, there is no commitment.
Without commitment, there is no conclusion.
The 555 Cycle was never intended to become an open-ended series.
From its very beginning, it was designed to end.
Exactly 555 Cubist works.
No additions.
No special editions.
No continuation.
The decision was made long before the final painting existed.
For one reason.
Every meaningful promise requires a boundary.
In contemporary art, successful series often expand indefinitely.
Demand creates supply.
Collectors ask for more.
Markets reward repetition.
The artist becomes a manufacturer of their own success.
I wanted to avoid that outcome entirely.
A finite cycle changes the relationship between artist and work.
Every painting becomes part of a complete composition rather than an isolated object.
Each work occupies a permanent position.
Every number matters.
The cycle cannot be accelerated.
It cannot be extended.
It cannot be restarted.
Its integrity depends upon remaining exactly as originally defined.
This decision also creates freedom.
Paradoxically, limitations often produce greater creative independence than unlimited possibilities.
Knowing that the cycle will end changes every artistic decision.
Each painting becomes irreversible.
Each composition contributes to a larger narrative.
Completion becomes more important than repetition.
The 555 Cycle therefore represents more than quantity.
It defines an artistic language with a beginning, a development and a conclusion.
When the final Cubist work is completed, that chapter closes permanently.
The next body of work will not be Cubism.
It will not imitate what came before.
It will evolve into a different visual language exploring biology, space, technology and new relationships between nature and human imagination.
The end of the cycle is therefore not an ending.
It is a transition.
Every civilization leaves chapters behind.
Artists should be allowed to do the same.
The value of the 555 Cycle lies not only in the paintings themselves, but also in the certainty that the cycle will never be expanded for convenience or commercial opportunity.
Its conclusion is part of its meaning.
Only by ending can it remain complete.
